Known in Greek as Thessaloniki, the city of Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece and the most significant economic and cultural centre in the region. With a long history behind it, Thessaloniki is now a modern and cosmopolitan metropolis, whose special charm is ensured by the mixture of tourist sights, historical sites and the fast pace of modern life.
The city of Thessaloniki has numerous sights that are worth visiting, as well as archaeological sites that are ideal for discovering the past of a great civilization. The old forum, dating back to the 2nd-3rd centuries A.D., is well preserved with all its markets, buildings and the impressive odium, as well as the palace of Galerius Maximianus (the 4th century A.D.), the public baths, the hippodrome, the temples and other monuments.
Not far from Thessaloniki is Halkidiki, a particularly beautiful region, with incredible beaches, which would make the perfect destination for an unforgettable holiday; in fact, it is the most popular tourist region in Greece. The Halkidiki Peninsula is made up of 3 parts - Kassandra, Sithonia and Mount Athos. With a coastline spreading over 522 km, whose beaches vary both in shape and size from long beaches with fine sand to small beaches, picturesque bays, small harbours and traditional fishing villages, Halkidiki is a true paradise.
