Dragobete, celebration in the Orthodox calendar set on February 24th, has been an alternative to Valentine's Day for hundreds of years. The Romanian tradition says that on Dragobete, girls and boys go into the woods to gather snowdrops, and if they happen to meet, they should be together forever as they will enjoy the protection of the god Eros. Another version of the event is the traditional kiss: young people who kiss on Dragobete will always be in love. If a boy happens to step a girl on the foot on the 24th of February, she "knows" that he is serious about her and that this gesture is a suggestion for a lasting relationship.
