Natural setting

Cyprus is a special touristic destination from the Mediterranean Sea due to its geographical position and its historical background. Considered to be a European state, member of the European Union, Cyprus is unique because of its localization in the Middle East, being surrounded by three different continents: Europe, Africa and Asia. The Greek and Turkish influences offer Cyprus a unique identity and its culture is doubled by the spectacular landscapes.

In the cold season, when most of Europe expects low temperatures, Cyprus has a mild climate, very similar with the beginning of spring. On the coast, the average temperature is 24°C and the winters are the warmest in Mediterranean.

In this period, on the salty lake Larnaca, you may observe multiple flamingos and other animal species that are migrating from colder countries. The warm season is perfect for sunbathing or exploring the mountain areas. The highest peak, localizated in Troods Mountains, has 1952m.

Good to know

One of the first aspects of the Cyprus culture experienced by foreigners is the warm welcome. Cypriots are known worldwide for the genuine and sincere hospitality and friendliness. The words 'Kalosorisate' (Welcome!) and 'Kopiaste' (Come join us!) are frequently called to locals and foreigners alike.

In shops and other businesses, courtesy dictates that visitors should utter a greeting, such as “Geia sas” (Hello) before saying what they want; to leave without saying “Geia sas” can be considered rude.
